Why An Introvert Might Excel As A Preacher

An introvert might seem like a poor choice for leading a ministry, but that’s not always the case.  Similar to a church website design, the effectiveness of a preacher doesn’t solely rely on their appearance but more on the way they attract visitors and retain members of the congregation.

Some people have issues with speaking in front of others and others struggle so much that they’ve never felt confident enough to try it.  While certain people are more suitable for leading a church than others, the success of your ministry isn’t predicated on the personality type of your preacher.

Do Introverts Take Their Time?
As opposed to their extrovert counterparts, introverts are more likely to take their time when speaking so they can be sure what they have planned will be helpful and appropriate for most churchgoers.  Since introverts usually take more time to process everything, they can also focus on what they say instead of worrying about time constraints or the church website design.  That creates a smooth presentation, even for those who may not feel completely comfortable in front of a crowd.

Better Listeners
While introverts tend to observe others objectively and unbiasedly, they often come to different conclusions about a subject than extroverts which might be beneficial in some situations.  Studies suggest they have more accurate first impressions of people and they form their own ideas about others without feeling pressured or judged by extroverts.

Concise Thoughts
Introverts have a tendency to think at length before speaking and that allows them to better formulate what they are planning to say.  They can also create clear and concise thoughts so the congregation follows along without losing the meaning of the sermon.

You should know that not all introverts would fare well in a career as a preacher.  With any job, fundamental requirements such as ability, training, and attitude must be fulfilled.  Often, people are quick to dismiss this personality type of being a preacher but they have certain traits that make them just as capable of being good leaders.
